Breathing is a really important part of my treatments for a reason.

Those few deep breaths we take at the beginning of a session help encourage the body into more of a parasympathetic state (our “rest and restore” mode) which can support lymphatic flow, circulation and how the body responds to treatment overall.

So many of us move through life rushing, shallow breathing and holding tension without even realising it. Taking a moment to slow the body down first can genuinely help the body feel more receptive and supported throughout the treatment.

Sometimes the smallest shifts have the biggest impact 🤍

This trip looked like cocktails, less sleep, meals out, beach days and completely switching off after a very busy season of life. But it also looked like slowing down, laughing with friends, moving naturally every day and actually allowing my body to rest.

Of course there were things I kept up just out of habit whilst travelling; hydration, movement, leg elevation after flights and listening to what my body needed but none of it felt restrictive.

Australia ended up being the perfect softer reset to finish the trip: beach walks, hot yoga, nourishing food and a spa day after a long flight 🤍

I’ve also come home feeling really inspired creatively again and finally booked onto a course I’ve wanted to do for a long time… so watch this space ✨

There is so much information online right now about how to “optimise” your lymphatic flow. And yes I use, treat with and recommend some of these methods and tools too.

But I also see so many women feeling overwhelmed, thinking they need 10 different things just to “support their lymphatics.”

You don’t. If you’re generally healthy and simply trying to feel better in your body, start with the basics.

The extras can absolutely enhance your routine, they just don’t replace foundations.

What I’m learning from surgery recovery…Recovery has been more challenging than I had expected, not so much physically but mentally too. As someone who feels at my best with routine, doing this work & a busy social calendar being forced to stop and slow it all down has felt very uncomfortable.

What this phase is teaching me is that rest isn’t passive. Its an essential part of healing. Creating space for healing, being patient, allowing help from others is more important for the healing than what we actively do.

One thing that I’ve found difficult, as someone who is usually here with a hack or two for treating bloating and fluid retention symptons, is how REAL this is post surgery 😩 A strong reminder of how much our lymphatic system plays a part in the bodies recovery process and how you need to work with it not against it.

Over the coming weeks my focus is on gentle lymphatic support and keeping my nervous system calm. I’m already very much looking forward to my upcoming manual lymphatic drainage that i’ve now booked in for this month 🙏
